Time Diary

The app I chose to document my time on is Discord, because I believe it is the most active app I use. I use discord mostly through my phone but occasionally through my laptop, and after recording my activity I found that I only use the laptop for Discord once every few days whereas the app on my phone is used every day, multiple times a day. I chose to focus on weekdays so I recorded my usage over the course of Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. Over the course of the four days I documented roughly three hours a day spent on Discord; about two of those hours are spent on messaging with the last hour spent on phone calls.

I spend roughly fifteen minutes in the morning when I first wake up reading and responding to any messages I missed while sleeping and/ or talking to my partner before we go to work or school. One hour of time is spent on a call with them at night before we go to bed to talk about our days and other miscellaneous topics that have popped into our heads. The remaining hour and forty five minutes is spent on texting throughout the day including a roughly thirty minute lunch break when I am messaging with my partner or friends.

I have found that my weekday schedule is fairly routine and easy to track which is why I chose to focus on those days, especially since my weekends are hectic and I would have forgotten to record. I also think different parts of the semester would affect my usage, for example, I would probably be texting way less in finals week than the first week of classes as I am focused on studying. It is also worth noting that having an especially bad day would also probably heavily affect my usage of Discord because if I didn’t want to talk to anyone I wouldn't be using the app as much, and if I needed to vent I would likely be using it for longer. Overall, this was a very interesting find for me as I didn’t realize just how much time I spent on this app.
